Hemelliggaam (Afrikaans: Heavenly Body) or The attempt to be here now, is a visual exploration of the existential aspects of the human-environment-astronomy relationship. The project is aiming to display with a contemporary perspective the interplay between scientific astronomical activity and everyday awareness of space looking also at South African Science Fiction writings from the 50's-70's. In particular reference to one of the most existential and emblematic Jan Rabie books 'DieHemelblom' (Heaven Flower), 1971. The focus of the project is on communities, landscapes and details located in the Western and Northern Cape, South Africa, where there is a special connection with the sky.
